This Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake recipe is almost as easy as mixing up a cake mix from a box,and taste so much better.

There are many cake recipes out there, and just as many chocolate cake lovers out there as well. But as far as I can see they're pretty much the same with little tweaks, and really thats the beauty of recipes.
past down from generation to generation, friend to friend, found in a newspaper clipping, an old book, or on a blog.

So here is yet another chocolate cake recipe. This is my easy go to recipe, when I need some chocolate and cake in my life.

How to make a Homemade Cake

Ingredients needed for the cake:

  • all-purpose flour
  • granulated sugar
  • unsweetened cocoa powder
  • baking soda
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • milk
  • oil ( I use olive oil )
  • eggs
  • vanilla extract ( I like to use vanilla paste for extra flavor )
  • boiling water

Mix using a mixer or whisk. I always mix up my dry ingredients first, set aside, and whisk up the milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. After that, you incorporate the dry ingredients gently and pour in the boiling water mixing well.

You will end up with a thin batter. Pour into greased pans, and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until toothpick or knife comes out clean.

Let cake cool for ten minutes or so and take out of pans onto cooling racks.

Easy one-bowl recipe

Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 50 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Line two 9-inch pans with parchment paper and spray with a non-stick spray or spray with a non-stick spray and flour well.

  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

  3. Whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt) in a large mixing bowl

  4. add to dry ingredients milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Stir in the boiling water and mix until smooth.

  5. Divide batter evenly into each 9-inch pan. Bake 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until a knife or toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

  6. Cool for 10-15 minutes, then turn out cakes onto a cooling rack.

How can I make this into a gluten-free cake?

Easy as can be just substitute the all-purpose flour for a Gluten free flour like Bob’s Red Mill 1:1 ratio. The cake crumb will tend to crumble, so be careful when frosting. I recommend freezing the cake before frosting when using gluten-free flour is easier to handle.

Can I make this recipe into cupcakes?

Absolutely, fill 24 paper-lined muffin pans and bake at 350 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

These are my favorite cupcake liners they look stunning.
