Classic Shrimp Dip with Cream Cheese is the perfect combination of creamy, savory, and slightly tangy flavors, making it a must-have for any party or gathering.
It is the easiest dip you will ever make! It’s been a family standby for years; my mom and dad had it at every holiday party growing up. It’s a simple recipe and I look forward to making it yearly at our family gatherings.

Classic Shrimp Dip
Classic shrimp dip with cream cheese has been around for decades, showing up at parties, potlucks, and holiday gatherings as a go-to crowd-pleaser. It’s one of those nostalgic recipes when dips were the heart of any good get-together.
The beauty of this dip is in its simplicity, just a handful of ingredients, such as cream cheese, cocktail sauce, and shrimp, come together to create something rich, creamy, and packed with flavor.
Some versions mix everything for a smooth, spreadable dip, while others layer it for a more classic shrimp cocktail feel. I like the more classic shrimp cocktail feel, but either way, it’s delicious!

Ingredients
12 -16 oz bag of frozen pre-cooked Bay shrimp or medium shrimp diced
1 bottle of cocktail sauce
24 oz cream cheese (2 – 12 oz packs)
2 tbsp heavy cream
3 sprigs of dill weed, if desired.
1 bag of corn chips or crackers
Lemon wedges to drizzle over the shrimp
Instructions
To make the whipped cream cheese smooth, set out the blocks of cream cheese 30 minutes before you start mixing.
Beat the cream cheese with a hand mixer, then add in the heavy cream and whip until smooth and light.
Defrost the shrimp in the fridge the night before you plan to make it. ( I like to put the shrimp in a colander for about ten minutes to let the water and moisture drip off before adding to the cocktail sauce)
Spread the whipped cream cheese on a platter or pretty dish. Pour on the cocktail sauce, spread it evenly, and drain off any liquid on the shrimp. (If using medium-sized shrimp, cut them up into smaller chunks, so they are easier to scoop up).
Serve with corn chips or crackers, and top with dill weed. Add lemon wedges on the side, Enjoy!

Common Questions
How far in advance can I make shrimp dip?
Shrimp dip gets better as it sits, so making it a few hours ahead, or even the night before, is a great idea. The flavors meld together beautifully. Just cover it tightly and store it in the fridge.
What are the best crackers or dippers for shrimp dip?
You can’t go wrong with crackers or corn chips. They pair perfectly with the creamy texture of the dip. If you want a little crunch, try toasted baguette slices or crisp veggies like celery and bell peppers.
