Here is one of my favorite Poems:

Christmas Bells

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 1807 – 1882

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
    And wild and sweet
    The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
    Had rolled along
    The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
    A voice, a chime,
    A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
    And with the sound
    The carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

It was as if an earthquake rent
The hearth-stones of a continent,
    And made forlorn
    The households born
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth," I said;
    “For hate is strong,
    And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
    The Wrong shall fail,
    The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.”

Merry Christmas!

-Abby Jo

    I think my favorite Christmas memory was exploring the Heidelberg Christmas Market. All the stalls looked like tiny log cabins outlined in white lights, and we would walk around while sipping our hot chocolate and munching on pomme frites. At one point, the cathedral bells started tolling as it started to snow – an absolutely magical moment.

    My favorite Christmas memories — probably the excitement in Christmas Eve of getting handmade gowns to wear to bed and having Vegetable Cheese Chowder and Ham sandwiches on Christmas Eve. I think the anticipation is what sticks most in my mind.

    My favorite memory of Christmas is getting together with my sisters and my mom at her house to make cookies and Buckeyes ( this is what we call those yummy chocolate covered peanut butter balls in ohio). I would love to win a copy of your cookbook so we could make your sugar cookie recipe, and make it part of our yearly family tradition. I love your channel.. I don’t follow many channels but you and your family come off so real and honest. It’s a breath of fresh air to watch. Thanks so much

    My favorite Christmas memory is when i was a child, we didn’t have any power on Christmas morning so we ate cereal and opened presents by candlelight. It was so special! We also go every year to see Christmas lights on Christmas eve. We love baking cookies, i can’t wait to try the chocolate pie recipe that Roots and Refuge did! I would love to win a copy of your book!

    Favorite Christmas movie; A Christmas story. Favorite Christmas memory, when I was in 6th grade we had a huge windstorm with temperatures in the single digits. We were out of power on our farm for five days. It’s was even more work than usual having to shlep buckets of water all the way from the creek on the front of our property to the barn (for the animals) and house (for flushing the toilet.) My parents were both volunteer firefighters and were gone much of the five days responding to emergencies due to the weather. My grandparents lived next door and we all worked together to keep the animals safe and pipes from freezing. When my brother and I went to get our stockings from under the tree on Christmas morning the lights came back on! It was such a relief.

    I love baking Christmas cookies with my mom, the crispy sugar cookies and Reese’s cups in pb dough are my favorite kinds. I’m happy to just be able to spend Christmas with my family this year since I had to work through the holiday the last couple years. It’s the simple things that really make a difference this time of year.
