Interest in the Tiny House movement has recently seen a surge. People, who would have never considered down sizing, are now taking a motivated look into the Tiny Lifestyle that goes with the Tiny House.

Everyone has his or her own reasons for even considering the Tiny Lifestyle. I had to ask myself, what self respecting American would forfeit their right to “have and to hold”…. Junk?

What other country, has thrift stores with ever changing stuff?

What is the true motivation to down size to Tiny?

The answer came softly, as if it had to travel the ocean to reach me

…FREEDOM.

I must confess, I have been rethinking my own financial position. Currently we live in a cash only built home, but we still have a land payment. Thoughts of total freedom from the land payment could mean a milk cow, a barn, or a real wood shop. So starting over again, isn't that scary anymore. Having land and a tiny home payed for is starting to get me excited.

I sat down with my wife and thumbed through a favorite book, “The Sears, Roebuck 1926 House Catalog, Unabridged Reprint.” We both stopped at page 37.  The “Cornell” was it, a 20’x26’ two story with a 7’x18’ covered porch. In 1926, this house came delivered for $1785. Oh how I wish I could fill out the order form in the back…. Sigh.

I’m starting to fall in love with the idea of “Tiny” homes and the freedom that comes with them. Who knows where this will go…

Out of all the utube’s that I saw on Tiny house living, for some reason this one got both sides of my brain working. Obviously you can take Tiny to an extreme, but it’s the idea of making a fitted living space work without any debt. This could mean a single person living in 200 sq ft. house on wheels or a larger family living in a 1200 sq ft. two story. It’s more about turning your back on the “Larger is Better” mantra, and taking a different look at the golden hand cuff we all call debt, mortgages, ect.

This is a great tour of a really "Tiny" home.
Tiny house blog is a new favorite. Go check it out, and you might start dreaming of “Tiny” homes too.

I love small homes! They are so great, because they are SMALL. Which makes them faster and more economical to build, heat, clean, ect. Here are a few of my favorites....
