This is such a true saying when living off-grid…”It’s always easier to conserve power, then it is to produce power.”
Now I must start cooking like crazy for Thanksgiving.
It’s been a rather busy week, starting on Nov. 13 – Nov 30th we have four family birthdays! Daniel and I will celebrate our fourteenth wedding anniversary, and we like to top it off with Thanksgiving! I have to show you this darling honey jar I got for my birthday! Is it not darling? I smile every time I look at it. I know most of you all have read about our camping, and building the house, I want to tell you it’s not the end of the story. I’m not sure if anyone has noticed (by the pictures we post) that our house is very unfinished. We are finishing the house as cash allows (DEBT FREE). This includes our off-grid capabilities. My husbands last post on Les Strouds off-grid documentary brought lots of comments. It seems most of you think it would be great to start out like that, but most cannot afford that kind of set up. I can whole heartily agree with you, because we were one of those families that couldn’t afford a set up like that. We have had to start out with the bare bone basics. Learning all the time what works for us, and what doesn’t. I guess my point to all this rambling is that you can live off-grid, and it doesn’t have to be perfect. Yes our goal is to have solar panels an inverter ect., but the reality is we started with nothing… then came a small generator, propane fridge, oil lamps ect. Every improvement was celebrated with joy. I love hearing from you all, and I’m glad you want hear about this basic and simple life. This is such a true saying when living off-grid…”It’s always easier to conserve power, then it is to produce power.” Now I must tell you, the snow has come. I LOVE SNOW! I know some of you might think I’m crazy. It must be the Nordic in me. Snowshoeing, sledding, hot cocoa, even trudging through the snow, with our tall boots and long johns to the outhouse. :) Now I must start cooking like crazy for Thanksgiving. 8 Comments |
