We all know that if anything is properly maintained, it should last a lifetime. Here are some tips to do just that:
1 – Keep your drying rack unfinished. Do not paint or seal – it won’t last and it will stain your clothes.
2 – Allow rungs to dry in between loads, to avoid mold growing. Mold needs moisture – no moisture – no mold.
3 – In the event of black speckles (mold spores), place the rack in the direct hot sun to kill the spores. You may rub a little white vinegar or vodka/ water at a 4 to1 ratio on the rungs. NEVER use bleach.
4 – Sanding the rungs lightly keeps them soft and snag free. The dowels are kiln dried birch, and will swell with moisture resulting in the grain of the wood to rising a little, feeling a little fuzzy. That’s normal; wood will absorb moisture and dry as the seasons change.
Regardless where you got your drying rack, following this simple tips can extend the longevity of any drying rack. (Even a piece of wal-mart wonderfulness)
