The story begins with the father filling his ox cart with all the things his family has made or grew that year, and taking them to market. After selling all that was in the cart, he then sells all the containers and even the cart. He makes some heartwarming purchases for his family and returns home.
This is the only children's book that I have read as an adult that has made me ask the question, Am I was forgetting the principle ways of old time homesteading? A refocusing of priorities always seems to be a result of reading this book for me. I now find it hard to call this a children's book anymore.
